3 Ways that Human Design Changed My Life

Aka: why you should care about your Human Design

If you follow me on Instagram, then you know I’m pretty obsessed with Human Design.

For example, I constantly harp on the fact that I’m a Manifestor and I talk about my emotional wave and my 3/5 profile a lot!

If you don’t know, Human Design is your energetic blue print. It shows you how best to use your energy, get into your own unique alignment, and harness your innate power.

And that’s why Human Design shifted so much for me. It gave me my own user manual!

In the title of this blog post I say how this changed my life, but it felt so much more like coming home to myself, like everything clicked into place and I was like, ohhhhhhhhh NOW I get it.

For me, it was less of a learning and more of an unlearning. Unlearning limiting beliefs and societal “norms” and bullshit that never served me.

A softening of who I am and who I’ve always meant to be.

Why care about human design?

First off, Ra Uru Hu is the founder of Human Design. The system is a blend of the Chinese I Ching, Western astrology, Chakra, Hexagram, and Kabbalah.

So it’s definitely an intricate system.

I’m not going to lie. The first time I learned about Human Design, back in 2016ish, I was like nope. This is confusing as hell and I’ll stick with astrology, thank you very much.

That being said, I still followed some Human Design folks on Instagram and every time I saw them post about something related to me, I read it and saved it.

And I very slowly consumed content.

I let things marinate and see how it all felt.

Got my first HD reading.

Had my mind blown.

Bought some HD downloads.

Had my mind blown.

And then piece by piece, I became a full fledge obsessive.

So what I’m saying is: be curious.

Let Human Design take you on a journey. Let the pieces that interest you provoke deep learning and ignore all the stuff that confuses you. And then keep coming back to see what else you need.

Because, remember… Human Design is here to show you how best to support you.

How to make life feel feel easier and more effortless, more aligned and illuminated.

Why rush that?

Still not convinced by Human Design?

Here are 3 ways that Human Design shifted my life and made it better.

PS: I should say that I have dozens and dozens of examples of this and I’ll probably share those all one day. But for now, these are the ones that brought immediate and noticeable change in how I show up to myself and the world.

It gave me the permission slip I needed to lean into rest.

Over 70% of the world, according to Human Design, has a consistent energy source: a defined Sacral Center.

I am a part of the 30% that doesn’t have a defined sacral center

This means I get tired. I need rest. A lot more rest than most folks. And a lot more rest than capitalism and modern society deems acceptable.

For so much of my life, I pushed myself to the breaking point.

I didn’t understand why I just couldn’t be “normal”.

My friends could go, and go, and go and I would have to cancel because I couldn’t keep up. I’d be working events and need two to three weeks of recovery while others were back in the office the next day after an 90 hour work week. For godsakes, my Grandpa is now 90 years old and had more energy than I do and can run circles around me.

Meanwhile, I tried to keep up and I kept getting sick, being depressed, and just feeling so much guilt.

(Hot tip: If you feel guilty while resting, then that is not nourishing rest. That’s pressure cooker resting, stressing you out even more.)

It never even occurred to me that perhaps I could just need more rest than others.

No, it was obvious that something was wrong with me. I was broken and  lazy and should just push and push and push until that somehow fixed me.

(It’s important to note that yes, some of this has to do with society’s condoning of how unworthy rest is. It’s gross and not fair. Let people rest!! Let’s remove our capitalistic lens and realize how rest is vital to our bodies and to our health.)

And then I learned about Human Design and me being a Manifestor and having an undefined sacral. And it showed me that there were others like me. People who needed rest as much as I did.

And that it was okay to rest.

Hell, it’s even better than okay. Resting is a part of work. I cannot work and not have rest.

I create through my rest. I think bigger and do bigger because of my rest.

My resting is a huge part of me and it makes me special!

A weight lifted off of me.

I started to be more strategic with my energy, with resting, with naps.

To be honest, rest and energy is something I still struggle with. There’s a lot of unlearning here. A lot of being kind to myself. However, I do feel such an intense relief knowing that I’m not broken and that this is my design.

And that I have permission from the Universe to chill the hell out and rest.

This knowledge was one of the best gift that I ever received. Definitely saved my life.

((PS: Rest and undefined sacral centers is something I am going to deep dive into soon. Like blog posts and workshops and energy boosters. So stay tuned!! ))

I learned how to make better decisions.
Aka: I learned why I dreaded things even though I was stoked about them when I made the decision.

In Human Design, your authority describes your decision making. And in Human Design, no decision making is ever made by your brain. That means you are never thinking your way to a decision.

For me, I make decisions by my emotions.

That means that I need to feel all my emotions before I’m able to come to a decision that would make me happy.

That alone was a huge Aha! moment. When I learned this, I stopped making decisions in the split of the moment and let myself take time and feel them out.

When a friend asked me if I wanted to do something that weekend, I decided to think about it - or should I say FEEL on it and get back to them.

However, what gave me the biggest OMG!!! Moment was when I learned what my emotional wave was!

There are 3 types of emotional waves (according to Transparent Matrix) and mine is called the Tribal Wave.  (Def not a fan of the name).

So with this wave, you need to feel allllll of the wave. Not just the little valleys and the big peak, but the big fall (aka: crash) too.

I realized in the past, I’d feel my emotions but when it reached the top, I’d think wowww… this decision can’t get any better. This must be where the feeling ends and it is safe for me to make the decision.

Nope!

So I’d make the decision to go on a trip with that friend, being so stoked about it, and then after making the decision, I’d panic for days. I would worry that it wasn’t the right choice, what if I hated it, what if we should have gone on a different day, omg how do I back out???

And I’d make myself sick.

Now I know that I was feeling that crash. I hadn’t felt my full wave yet and I was in the plummeting stage.

And boy oh boy, did it plummet.

So now I know it’s best for me to make a decision AFTER I feel the crash. Like, I’ll let myself feel all the highs and then wait for the lows to come too.

That’s a necessary part of my design!

And by feeling this full wave, it saves me a lot of heartache and stress.

I have a friend who recently discovered she had sacral authority, meaning she gets a gut response on decisions. With this knowledge, she is working on turning down the external noise so she can go within.

Like… that’s Powerful. That’s Magic!

I learned that what I’m naturally called to do is WHAT I NEED TO FOLLOW.

Your Incarnation Cross in Human Design is like your life’s purpose. Or better yet, it shows us the energy and themes of how we’re going to show up for our life’s purpose.

Mine is the Right Angle Cross of Rulership. This Incarnation Cross is all about being a leader. And leading through education.

It’s very “community” focused. And helping supply the community with resources to help the community grow and survive.

And knowing that felt so validating.

Like I worked a desk job, but it was the things outside of my job description that lit me up something fierce: leading bookclubs, running self-development communities, organizing clubs for students, co-captaining a fun (but losing) recreational softball team, organizing full itinerary of events for work trips…

And having this knowledge that I am in fact a great community builder and that’s a highly valuable skill and it’s necessary in the world and it’s going to be a part of my purpose… that was such a welcoming home moment.

Like I’m meant to be good at this.

I’m good at this for a reason and I need to share that with the world.

This isn’t something I should put on the back burner, but should seek it out.

I don’t know about you, but a lot of my life has been me turning away from things that I’m either good at/enjoy because society deemed those things as too feminine or weird or un-sellable or unnecessary or whatever.

And a lot of my adulthood has been me unlearning those things and getting back to what’s ME.

And Human Design has been a super helpful lens to remind me of who I truly am at the core. Plus, it also shows me the ways I need to unlearn and decondition.

That’s invaluable!

are you ready to go on this Human Design journey with me?

Are you ready to:

  • Get your permission slips to allow yourself to live the life meant for you and your design?

  • Decondition from learned (and harmful) norms and things that don’t serve you?

  • Understand how your body best makes decisions (which will straight up change your life)??

  • Uncover your gifts that you are ignoring or putting on the back burner? (Ps: the world NEEDS you and NEEDS you to share these. That’s why you are you and you’re here!)

Plus sooooo much more!

If you don’t know your chart, you’ll need your:
Birth Date
Birth Time
Birth Location

And then you can pop your info in here:
Jovian Archive
My Body Graph

Once you have your chart, pay attention to your big three:

  • Type

  • Authority

  • Profile

And start googling and doing some research. Get curious! Instagram and Pinterest are huge resources.

In the next part of this series, I’ll go into more about the specifics of Human Design and ultimately how we can use all this information to best live our lives.

Including using energy work to help support our design.

Because when we are in alignment with our true self, with our design, we are so magnetic and so powerful. And energy work can help us find alignment and deconditioning more quickly.
